The Post-pandemic SaaS Landscape in Brazil

Published on 04/15/2022

As the SaaS market expands, especially since the pandemic started, new business opportunities are growing.

A lot has changed since the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic: not only the habits of individuals, such as personal hygiene, but other unexpected matters like consumer behavior – the way we shop, the way we work, and even the way we eat, just to name a few.

As a result of greater investment in technology due to the pandemic, the Brazilian software market grew by 30% in 2020 and is set to grow by 10.5% in 2022.

As the market develops, new market trends and opportunities are appearing. We’ve listed the market trends, particularly in the SaaS realm post-pandemic.

Remote Work is the New Black

What seemed to be a short-lived trend became almost the norm among many corporations. The pandemic forced workers to work from home but companies have realized the cost-benefit for both sides to keep on working in a remote model.

However, companies have had to double their attention with regard to workers’ productivity and remote communication and resort to technology to keep them on track. The spread of remote work increases the challenges of recruiting talent — but also increases opportunities.

A number of companies around the globe, but also in Brazil, are using software to track their remote workers’ productivity, as well as CRM, recruiting software, payroll software and others.

Digital Payment is Booming

Pix was the game-changer in the real-time payment industry in Brazil. Since its launch, the instant payment method quickly became a success, and the alternative has outgrown major traditional payment methods in the country, such as debit cards and boleto bancário. But it doesn’t stop there.

The implementation of Open Banking will enable innovation as well as competition among financial institutions, enhance the efficiency in credit and payments markets, and so on.

New Niches for SaaS Solutions

Many Brazilians saw business opportunities during the pandemic, and many others had to reinvent themselves out of necessity. Either for one reason or another, new businesses and niches were born.

From restaurants that had to migrate from in-person services to delivery, to health professionals such as therapists and physicians who had to fully embrace teletherapy, to gyms and yoga teachers who embraced the on-demand technology – many new pathways opened up.

But software specifically aimed to solve specific problems in certain segments (food, crafts, service provision or any other area) is not yet fully implemented. There is a blue ocean of opportunities that can be optimized by new ideas and companies.

Therefore, there’s space for software developers as a service to create solutions that help these micro-entrepreneurs in financial management, marketing or customer service, for example.

New Technologies

IoT (Internet of things), metaverse, augmented reality, AI, machine learning. It is still a bit early to say whether these things are more than hype, but what we know for sure is that they’re all potent ideas with wide possibilities for expansion and investment.

In 2022, IDC projects this market at US$ 1.6 billion, consisting of IoT-related solutions and services in Brazil, which represents a growth of 17.6% over the previous year.

That said, it’s worth thinking about how advanced solutions can help business performance and improve people’s lives.
