Expectations for m-commerce in this year’s Black Friday edition

This year’s Black Friday edition is expected to be the most digital in history. Driven by the Covid-19 pandemic, Brazilian ecommerce has faced an important boom, with at least 7 million new digital consumers now shopping online. M-commerce participation should be more significant in this year’s edition. After all, mobile purchases have already surpassed desktop purchases in Brazil, according to Ebit|Nielsen. In addition, in 2019 online purchases made from mobile devices represented approximately 55% of total e-commerce sales, up from a share of around 32% a year earlier.

Brazil is also the leading m-commerce market in Latin America in terms of revenue. Global Payments Report 2020 found that, in 2019, revenue reached UDS 12 billion, with a forecast to reach USD 25 billion by 2025.

Clothing is the most popular category in Brazilian m-commerce: 52% of consumers have bought clothing item using a mobile website or app. Meals come in a close second with 50%, followed by electronics (48%), food (35%), and home appliances (35%).

Favorite payment methods

Approximately 60% of m-commerce users in Brazil prefer to pay for their purchases with credit card. The boleto bancário, on the other hand, is a favorite for 26%, according to Mobile Time and Opinion Box.

Most popular apps

Mercado Livre is the leading m-commerce app in Brazil, accounting for 39% of user preference. comes in second, with 34%, followed by iFood (29%), Magazine Luiza (16%), Wish (13%), and AliExpress (9%).
