Brazilian consumers are used to choosing boleto bancário as a mean of payment. The alternative local payment method was introduced to the public 25 years ago and nowadays over 10 million boletos are paid on a daily basis in Brazil. As the boleto bancário is a payment slip, consumers would always rely on a physical version of it to complete the payment. Traditionally, even when purchasing online, buyers print their boleto bancário to pay it physically at any authorized institution or even at ATM machines. But, what happens when consumers cannot get a hold of a printer, such as when using their mobile devices to shop online?
The Old-School Way of Paying Boletos Without Printing The
Quite often buyers end up not finalizing the payment after generating a boleto bancário. In fact, just under half (49%) of all boletos generated in e-commerce transactions are paid. The difficult to print the boleto is a huge instigator of the high payment drop out rate. More determined consumers opt to grab a piece of paper and a pen and write down the boleto bancário payment details to use that as a reference for payment, both physically and electronically.
One would think that for online payment, particularly on mobile devices, the process should be fairly straight-forward. However, when accessing their mobile banking to complete the payment, buyers must keep switching between tabs or apps to copy the details, which is very inconvenient. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The days of printing a boleto will soon come to an end.
The Boleto Bancário of the 21st Century
Smartphones are playing an import role both as a source of internet connection and on the e-commerce industry. M-commerce is gaining in share worldwide and it is no different in Brazil. Therefore, finding ways to make browsing, buying, and payment experiences better for consumers who opt for these devices is crucial to stay in business. With this in mind, PagBrasil created its Boleto Flash®, an enhanced form of boleto bancário that comes with a responsive layout to facilitate payment on mobile devices. This is how it works:
1. Firstly, consumers must choose the entity where the payment will be done:
2. After, they can simply copy the numbers in the field “Código de barras” and paste them onto the bank app:
For payments made physically, either because consumers prefer to do so or because they are among the 55 million unbanked Brazilian adults, showing the numbers on the screen to the bank (or authorized institution) employee is enough. Users visualizing a Boleto Flash® on desktop can simply use “CTRL + C” to copy the numbers and “CTRL + V” to paste them on their internet banking. Those registered in the DDA system (Authorized Direct Debit), will be able to access their boleto directly in the bank app or internet banking.
After 25 years and plenty of technological advances, it is time to bring the boleto to the 21st century. The Boleto Flash® is a great way to improve the payment experience on mobile devices, but this is not its only advantage: it also provides payment confirmation in under two hours. You can read more about this here.
So now you know: choose Boleto Flash® and quit printing boletos. As an added bonus, you will also be helping the environment and saving some trees.
